Before every clinical trial, each medicine has undergone extensive laboratory testing and has to be approved by the MHRA (Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) and an independent medical ethics committee, who will evaluate and ensure the wellbeing of the volunteers is safeguarded.
The trials are such a valuable part of the process as they are stringently designed to guarantee the quality, reliability, and safety of new medicines.
In the last seven years, Quintiles Drug Research Unit at Guy’s Hospital has conducted over 1000 Phase I development studies worldwide.

Professor Tim Mant
Professor Mant is Senior Medical Advisor and Principal Investigator at Quintiles Guy’s Drug Research Unit, London. He is responsible for reviewing the safety of studies and supervising all medical aspects of the unit’s activities.
Amongst his many positions, Professor Mant is Honorary Senior Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacology at Guy’s, King’s College and St Thomas’ Hospitals Medical and Dental School. To date, he has in excess of 85 published papers and industry standard textbooks.
Dr. Elizabeth Allen
Dr. Elizabeth Allen has over 35 publications to her name and holds a Ph.D in Drug Metabolism and Disposition in Experimental Chronic Renal Failure. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and member of other associations and boards, Dr Allen is also Visiting Senior Lecturer in the Pharmaceutical Research Division, School of Biomedical and Health Sciences at King’s College, London.
